When she was 21 in 1882, Lou Andreas-Salome's mother took her to Rome. At a literary salon in the city, Lou Andreas-Salome became acquainted with Paul Ree. He was the author of "Der Ursprung der moralischen Empfindungen (The Origin Of The Moral Sensations)."
After two months, Lou Andreas-Salome and Paul Ree became partners.

On 13 May 1882, Paul Ree's friend Friedrich Nietzsche joined them. In that time, He had witten "Die frohliche Wissenschaft (The Gay Science)."

When they and Lou Andreas-Salome's mother travelled through Italy, only Lou Andreas-Salome and Friedrich Nietzsche climbed Monte Sacro. On Monte Sacro, the accident or something might be happened. But no one had told. (Left to right, Lou Andreas-Salome, Paul Ree and Friedrich Nietzsche)

In 1884 Lou Andreas-Salome became acquainted with Helene von Druskowitz, an Austrian philosopher. In that time, Helene von Druskowitz had written "Percy Bysshe Shelley."

Lou Andreas-Salome and Paul Ree moved to Berlin and lived together until a few years before her marriage to linguistics scholar Friedrich Carl Andreas. Lou Andreas-Salome and Friedrich Carl Andreas remained married from 1887 until his death in 1930.

Throughout her married life, she engaged in affairs or/and correspondence with the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke. In that time, Rainer Maria Rilke had published the volumes of poetry "Advent."
In 1899, he traveled with Lou Andreas-Salome and her husband, Friedrich Carl Andreas, to Moscow where they met the novelist Leo Tolstoy.
Rainer Maria Rilke wrote the poem "Zu Lou Andreas-Salome (To Lou Andreas-Salome)."

In 1911 Lou met the psychoanalysts Sigmund Freud. In 1910 he had established the Internationale Psychoanalytische Vereinigung (International Psychoanalytical Association) with Carl Jung.
Lou Andreas-Salome had been studying the psychoanalysis according to his teaching.

Giuseppe Sinopoli composed the opera "Lou Salome." It was premiered at the Bayerische Staatsoper (Bavarian State Opera), Munich in 1981.
