Girls 1977 - 1979 were the Japanses girls rock band, they were affected by The Runaways. They released two albums "Noraneko" 1977 and "Punky Kiss" 1978. After the band broken up, Takako "Rita" Nomoto (vo) started the new wave band Pinups. Atsuko "Iria" Okuno started the guitar pop band Juicy Fruits. And Asami "Genie" Tatsuoka joined Ryo Kawata's Jungle's.

In 1989, Cherie Currie wrote her auto-biography "Neon Angel : The Cherie Currie Story" with Tony O'Neill. In 2010, the movie "The Runaways" directed by Floria Sigismondi based on the auto-biography "Neon Angel : The Cherie Currie Story" was released. For the movie, Dakota Fanning acted as Cherie Currie.
