物心覚える頃には、もうベッド脇の壁に五十音表 (Gojuon) が掲げられてあった。平仮名 (Hiragana) のそれと片仮名 (Katakana) のそれとそれらの文字が語頭を飾る事物が一覧になったモノだ。親が貼り付けたモノなのだろうか。それともぼく自身が請うて貼り出されたモノだろうか。それは解らない。小学校 (Primary School) 入学前に、ベッド脇にある押入れに世界地図 (World Map) を親が貼ってくれたのは憶えているし、洋服箪笥 (Wardrobe) のぼくの為にある抽斗 (Drawer) には、ステッカー (Sticker) やらなんやらが所狭しと貼り付けられてある。だから、五十音表 (Gojuon) の掲示主が誰であるのかは、親とぼく、そのどちらの可能性もあるのだ。猶、この件に関してひとつ付け加えるべき事があるとしたら、その表を憶えろと命令された記憶が一切ない事だ。その表に関するぼくの憶い出は、この字とこの字は似ているなぁとか、この字はなんでこんなかたちをしているのだろう、と謂う様な事ばかりだ。五十音表 (Gojuon) 本来の目的からすこしはずれたところに、幼児たるぼくの関心が向けられていた様なのである。
